APPLICATIONS

Offshore Wind Farms

Export and inter-array cables are the backbone of offshore wind, transmitting power from turbines to shore. Bandweaver’s RTTR/DCR solutions use DTS and load data to calculate safe, real-time cable ratings, maximising utilisation without overheating. LHD adds fire detection within offshore substations, where electrical equipment is critical.

The main external risks to offshore wind cables come from ship anchors and cable span movement caused by seabed erosion or shifting currents. Bandweaver’s Intrusion Detection (DAS) monitors subsea and nearshore cable routes, identifying anchor drags, trawler activity, or abnormal cable strain. This early warning capability allows operators to take action before damage escalates into costly outages or repairs.

PV Solar Installations

Solar power generation comes in two main forms: large-scale remote solar farms and roof-mounted solar installations.

  • Roof-mounted solar installations face risks of overheating and electrical faults. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

Battery installations pose one of the highest risks in the renewable sector due to thermal runaway, which can escalate into large-scale fires. Bandweaver’s FireLaser DTS with FireFiber continuously monitors battery racks and electrical connections for abnormal heating, detecting issues long before flames appear. LHD systems also provide rapid response in storage enclosures and auxiliary rooms. This ensures operators can protect both assets and personnel from catastrophic events.

Onshore Hydro

Onshore hydro facilities rely on reliable power transmission through buried and overhead cables, as well as substations and auxiliary infrastructure.
