When Bandweaver Technology and RAET won at the Security and Fire Awards for Excellence in 2022 for their work on the Santa Lucia Tunnel, it marked an important moment for both businesses.
Four years later, the impact can be seen not only in the projects that have followed but also in a partnership that has continued to grow.
Santa Lucia was a flagship project, bringing together Bandweaver’s FireLaser fiber optic Linear Heat Detection (LHD) technology and RAET’s expertise in tunnel automation and fire safety. Winning the award gave the project independent industry recognition and created an opportunity for the two businesses to celebrate what they had achieved together.
But the relationship didn’t stop with Santa Lucia.
Building on an award-winning partnership
Since 2023, Bandweaver and RAET have worked together on numerous tunnel projects across Italy. During the period in which individual projects were recorded, 39 named Italian tunnel projects were supplied through RAET, alongside major subsequent work, including the Turin Metro.
The commercial relationship has grown too. That growth reflects the trust and understanding developed through delivering complex projects together.
The partnership has also extended beyond project delivery. Bandweaver and RAET regularly share their experience through technical content and industry education, including joint webinars exploring how fire detection, accurate location and automated suppression can work together within tunnel environments.
In 2026, RAET’s Sergio Sartini joined Bandweaver for the Seconds Matter: Automating Fire Detection and Suppression in Road Tunnels webinar, using experience from real projects to discuss the benefits of integrating detection with wider tunnel safety systems.
On the relationship, Graziano Venturi, CEO of RAET, said:
“Winning The Security & Fire Awards for Excellence with Bandweaver gave RAET more than a trophy. It gave us credibility with our customers, confidence in our approach and a partnership that has kept growing ever since.”
Four years of progress
The Santa Lucia award remains an important milestone for Bandweaver and RAET. It recognised the strength of a successful project, but it also helped reinforce a relationship that has continued to develop commercially and collaboratively.
Richard Kluth, Managing Director of Bandweaver said:
“Since winning the award the partnership with RAET has gone from strength to strength. Having installed one of the most technically advanced fire detection systems in Europe, into one of the largest and most high profile projects and then winning the prestigious SFEA award has given us an amazing platform to build from.”
Four years on, the two businesses are delivering more projects together, planning further ahead and sharing their combined expertise with the wider industry.
Santa Lucia may have provided the award-winning moment, but the partnership built around it has created a much longer-lasting legacy.
