The Santa Lucia Tunnel in Italy, one of the largest and longest three-lane tunnels in Europe at 7.8 km, required a high-specification solution to ensure safety and operational continuity.
Bandweaver’s FireLaser fiber optic Linear Heat Detection system was selected to provide continuous temperature monitoring along the entire tunnel. By delivering a full thermal profile with metre-level resolution, the system enables early detection and precise localisation of fire events, even in environments affected by exhaust gases, dust, and complex airflow conditions.
Designed with redundancy and flexibility in mind, the system integrates seamlessly with automated fire suppression and tunnel control systems, supporting fast, coordinated response to incidents while minimising false alarms.
