Fire Protection for Madrid Airport Tunnel Infrastructure with Fiber Optic LHD

Large-scale transport hubs require advanced fire detection systems to ensure passenger safety and uninterrupted operations. At Madrid–Barajas Airport, an extensive tunnel network connecting multiple terminals demanded a solution capable of delivering fast, accurate detection across a wide and complex environment.

To meet these requirements, Bandweaver deployed its FireLaser fiber optic Linear Heat Detection (LHD) system, providing continuous temperature monitoring along the full length of the tunnel infrastructure. The system enables rapid detection of heat build-up and fire events using advanced alarm capabilities such as rate-of-rise and deviation detection.

With smart zoning and precise event location, operators are able to respond quickly and effectively, reducing risk and supporting safe, reliable tunnel operation. The solution also integrates seamlessly with existing fire detection systems, ensuring coordinated response and real-time visibility across the network.

The result is a high-performance, low-maintenance fire detection solution that enhances safety, improves operational resilience, and protects critical airport infrastructure.
