Bandweaver’s fiber optic Linear Heat Detection technology has been installed in a Norwegian road tunnel for the first time as part of the major safety upgrade of the 3.1 km Storvikskar Tunnel.
Working with Norwegian partner Elotec, Bandweaver supplied its FireLaser LHD solution to provide continuous fire detection throughout the single-bore, two-way tunnel. Approximately 4 km of FireFiber AT sensing cable monitors temperature along the route, providing rapid detection and precise location of developing heat events.
The solution integrates with the tunnel’s wider fire and security infrastructure, with alarm information ultimately passed to Norway’s Road Traffic Control Centre through the SCADA platform.
As Bandweaver’s first road tunnel LHD installation in Norway, Storvikskar also establishes an important local reference as the country continues to modernise its extensive tunnel network.
