Car parks present challenging fire detection environments, where vehicle emissions, airflow, and large open spaces can limit the effectiveness of traditional systems. To meet stringent Dutch fire safety requirements, Bandweaver’s fiber optic Linear Heat Detection system was required to demonstrate proven performance under real test conditions.
Bandweaver deployed its FireLaser Distributed Temperature Sensing solution and conducted a full fire pan test, witnessed by the Dutch Fire Authorities. Even under challenging conditions, including wind impact and maximum sensor spacing, the system successfully detected the fire within 25 seconds, exceeding performance expectations.
Unlike conventional detection technologies, the fiber optic system continuously monitors temperature and uses rate-of-rise analysis to identify fire events at an earlier stage, while remaining immune to false alarms caused by vehicle exhaust fumes.
The successful test, combined with EN54 certification, enabled approval for use in car park applications, demonstrating a reliable, low-maintenance solution for early fire detection in demanding environments.
